Quilling Challenge May 2012

Welcome to the Quilled Challenge!
If you're a regular follower of my blog, you know that I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go to CHA in January (see post here for some great photos).  It was a great experience!

While I was there, I had the opportunity to quill for the very first time.  I had always been intimidated by quilling and was curious about it.  I met David and Alli Bartkowski, the owners of Quilled Creations, who were both very nice and great at explaining how quilling worked and showing me it wasn't as hard as I thought.  I was able to buy Alli's book, Paper Quilling For the First Time (and she even signed it!), and she showed me how to make a simple heart medallion.

So as you also know if you've been around for a while, I've been hosting challenges on my blog every month or so.  I have a great group of ladies (and my Dad who occasionally plays along) that are willing to go along with my crazy ideas and manage to make AMAZING cards with the most unlikely items... So I thought about quilling and the challenges, and I thought that would be a great chance to see what they could do.  Of course, they were up for the challenge!  Most had never quilled before, so we were all a little nervous and excited to try something new...

Quilled Creations kindly sponsored this challenge (and a prize too, so keep reading to learn how to enter to win!), and provided Slotted Quilling Tools, two Curling Coaches, and some beautiful paper strips.  I mailed everything out to the participants (happy mail!) and everyone got busy on their card.  The only rules?  They just had to use the quilling paper that I sent. If you're curious about the colors I sent them, they are: 1/8 inch sage green 111 quilling paper, 1/8 inch jewel tone amethyst quilling paper 1514, and 1/8 inch pink graduated quilling paper 1635.  The could create whatever kind of card they wanted...  So I've been holding my breath to see what great creations they've come up with....

So enough chatting - here are the MARVELOUS cards!

  1. FABULOUS cards. Really beautiful creations and I LOVE how different they all are! Fantastic! Well I am voting for Judy's cards. Love them both, but my favorite is her first one, the pink one with the soft tones. Those flowers are GORGEOUS! I am so pleased to be among these wildly talented ladies! Well done!

  2. Jennifer, thanks so much for a great challenge. This was beyond fun and the best part is that I learned a new technique/craft!! It really was the best!! I love all the cards, each one is so unique and special. I think that I like Donna's best because she has such a creative theme. Love the starfish and the underwater feel. Who would have thought that the swiss dot embossing folder would look like sand!! Thanks again for this amazing challenge, I really appreciate it!!!

  3. I learnt about this challenge on a blog I'm following & I was delighted to learn that finally someone decided to have quilling challenges. I'd love to make a card & link it up here but I doubt I'll manage this time. All the design team members did a splendid job for the first time. I"d like you to visit my blog, you'll find my very first quilled card there & many more in the gallery. I'm a new follower here so I can take part in your challenges and my favorite card is by Judy Woodland.

  17. Do we really really need to pick a favorite?!! They are all so pretty :) But if I had to choose one to give to my mother I would choose Judy's 2nd card! Simply amazing :) But they are ALL beautiful!!
I have never tried quilling :( Want to buy the "stuff" to do it, but I'm a bit tight on money so it has to wait until better times...

  18. So if i would win this quilling book, i absolutely know that quilling would be my favorite of additions to card making! if i don't win, guess i'll have to see where i can find it...Since Lisa and Susan both have quilled butterflies, i would go with one of those, though only because i love butterflies, and try to have atleast one of them on my card someplace. The pics are all gorgeous and don't know how to pic my favorite. Oh well, just pic one already, right? okay already - i'll pic Susan's, or maybe Lisa's or maybe just someone else's without a butterfly, no i'll stick with Susans.
