Day 4 - CardMonkey on Using Shaped Papers

Hello again to the fans of Crafty Card Gallery!

My name is Ellen (a.k.a., CardMonkey) and I have been given the honor of Guest Hosting Jennifer's Crafty Card Galley for the week.  This is my fourth posting ... if you missed my cards earlier this week, simple enough -- scroll down to view them.

I've made a slew of cards -- my favorite thing to do -- which I'll be featuring in no particular order this week.  If you have questions about techniques, papers, etc., hop on over to my blog at www.cardmonkey-business.blogspot.com, and shoot me a message there.

Today I'm going to show you that yes, I do more than just stamp or digi-stamp and color. This is a "Welcome to your new home" card I made for a friend.

To make it, I used a pre-cut special paper from October Afternoon. The house was featured on the front, though I had to do a little cut/paste and figuring to move the chimney to where I wanted it to be relative to my card. I used a snip of a silk flower to make the wreath for the door. Then, I free-hand cut a green "bush" and glued on (using Ranger's "Glossy Accents") the shreds of another silk flower's stamen to give "leaves" and texture to the bush.  I added the grey steps in the front, which I smudged with some brown ink to give the steps a worn-in look.  I think it's sweet, do you?

Have you made unusually shaped cards before? It takes a little bit of finagling to get them to work, but I like that it then becomes purely you, purely handmade.

Until tomorrow...
